Sept 20 | 6 Acting and Improv Workshops @ Anacostia Playhouse
Anacostia Playhouse is thrilled to present a series of unique acting workshops taught by John Johnson, founder of Verbal Gymnastics and creator of last fall’s funny and insightful “I Am Anacostia.”
These interactive workshops incorporate movement, storytelling and improvisation allowing individuals to use their bodies confidently as tools to communicate on and off stage. They are designed for both newbies and performers who want to enhance their stage presence and performance ability. The only requirement is a thinking cap and a willing to be creative.
Sign up today! The workshops will be held Saturdays from 10 a.m. until noon starting September 20. The fee is $120 ($20/class) and the class is limited to 8 students.

Teaching Artist:
John Johnson is an actor/playwright and poet A native Washingtonian and current resident of Anacostia, he holds a B.A in Theater Arts from the University if the District of Columbia. His recent works include “I Am Anacostia” an original piece that was one of Anacostia Playhouse’s first productions. He serves as a teaching artist in several school districts in the metro area, and is the founder of the theater company Verbal Gymnastics. Recent accolades include being named one of DC’s “30 under 30.” This recognition is given to emerging performance artists in their respective disciplines by the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities. He has also been a two-time Artist Fellow of the DC Commission. In addition to teaching this 6-week class at the Anacostia Playhouse John is currently a member of Playback Synergy Solutions an improv-based theater troupe that explores the fabric of the human condition by using stories from individual audience members, converting them into theatrical scenes. John’s delighted to be a part of bringing high quality theater “East of the River” to the Anacostia Playhouse.
