A meme to an end

1215 and 1213 Good Hope Rd SE in historic Anacostia. Formerly an Alcoholics Anonymous clubhouse. This storefront is across the street from the DC Department of Housing and Community Development and a few steps from the new 11th street bridge. A great opportunity to bring much needed dining, retail, or an entertainment venue to the neighborhood.

Highlights of the block: Honfleur Gallery, The Gallery at Vivid Solutions, The HIVE 2.0 and the Anacostia Arts Center

Challenges of the block: Vacant storefronts like this one, currently owned by the DC Department of Housing and Community Development

Most memes are amusing but where I live and work there is nothing funny about blight, unrealized retail and development opportunities, and a general lack of action. If you would like to create your own east of the river meme go HERE.  I would be happy to share reader meme submissions on CHotR.

12:40PM UPDATE:
One of my friendly and informative Twitter followers (who happens to work at DHCD) would like me to clarify that 1213 and 1215 Good Hope Rd SE "is not currently owned by DHCD." He was kind enough to provide a snapshot of the real property tax assessment for 1213-1215 Good Hope Rd SE so I am including it below.  You can't say I am not fair! :)

I still would like to see 1213 - 1215 Good Hope Rd SE put into some kind of use soon. It would be a nice change from the empty storefronts next door.
