District of Columbia Retired Educators Association

White House Correspondents' Association
The Young Journalist Scholarship is accepting applications for a $15,000 scholarship to DC high school graduating senior with a demonstrated need and an interest in journalism/mass communication who has participated in Prime Mover-sponsored programs. The Lambda Gamma Gamma Chapter (LGG) of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., in conjunction with The Uplift Foundation, is now accepting applications from college-bound high school seniors in their annual Colonel Charles Young Memorial Scholarship Contest. This year LGG will award $30,000 in scholarships to worthy college-bound students in our local community in need of financial assistance to attend college. University of Michigan Alumni Club University of Michigan Alumni club offers one $25,000 need-based scholarship to a promising student from the Washington DC metropolitan region. The scholarship is for a student who enrolls at the University of Michigan for the upcoming academic year. Deadline for applications is March 31, 2013. The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) - LULAC
Council 11041, Washington, DC is now accepting scholarship applications for academic year 2013 - 2014. LULAC Councils award scholarships to qualified Hispanic students who are enrolled or are planning to enroll in accredited colleges or universities in the United States. Awards start at $250. College Success Foundation -DC Leadership 1000 Scholarship is now accepting applications for four year, $5000 per year scholarships, to high school seniors who are actively preparing themselves for admission to a four-year college and are eligible for the federal Pell Grant program. AFCEA DC Scholarship Program
AFCEA DC will award multiple one year scholarships in the amount of $4,000 and one scholarship in the amount of $8,000. These scholarships are open to high school seniors entering four year degree-granting programs. The $2,000 one year scholarship program is open to students leaving two-year community colleges to attend four year degree granting programs. Scholarship awards are provided to qualified students pursuing degrees in fields of electrical, computer, chemical, aerospace or systems engineering; electronics; mathematics; computer science; physics; science or mathematics education; technology management; or management information systems. Lloyd D. Smith Foundation -The Lloyd D. Smith Foundation is offering two $2000 scholarships to high school graduates who live in Ward 7. Deadline for applications is April 16, 2013. For more information go towww.lloyddsmithfoundation.org.

Abramson Scholarship Foundation
The Abramson Foundation offers $2000 scholarships (with the possibility of increasing awards for the remaining three years of college). Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to community service and social change, a family income of less than $70,000, and a solid academic record demonstrated by an overall 2.75 GPA or better. Opportunities for Rising Seniors:
The Council on International Educational Exchange CIEE offers the the U.S. Foreign Service Study Abroad Scholarship for rising seniors in Washington, D.C. public high schools. This annual scholarship will be awarded to one or more rising seniors interested in pursuing an education or career in international relations or public policy. This scholarship will be applied towards program fees for a semester or full academic year CIEE High School Abroad or Gap Year Abroad program. Scholarship recipients must have a GPA of 3.0 or above and be interested in pursuing an education or career in international relations or public policy to be eligible.
