TODAY'S 'EXPERT' OPINION ON ANACOSTIA + SE DC BROUGHT TO YOU BY...
As a follow-up to my earlier post regarding the rampant "trash talking" on Twitter about Ward 8 neighborhoods by non-Ward 8 residents I thought I would create a new feature on the blog highlighting some of the more egregious tweets of the day. I still think it is best to respectfully educate some of our less enlightened tweeters -- many DC residents -- on life east of the river but I also feel we must address the issue of negative perception honestly. Who are these people making adding to the hype? Where do they live? What has their experience (if any) been like in our communities? Is the divide real or imagined? We must take an honest look at where these negative perceptions/fear are coming from. I'm not saying life in Wards 7 and 8 is all kittens and rosebuds but I missed the memo that "Southeast" is code word for the "center of hell."
Apologies in advance if any of my "experts" feel I have put them (or their tweets) on blast but it is but a small measure of what I and my neighbors feel everyday we have to read and listen to these bullying remarks. Please let this serve as a mirror that there are people, families, and businesses on the other side of the river and on the other side of that "joke."
