Please join Councilmember David Grosso on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 8:00 a.m.
to 9:30 a.m. at the Big Bear Cafe located at 1700 1st Street NW for "Grosso Near You."

"Grosso Near You" is part of an ongoing community engagement plan, where Grosso will be available for informal discussion along with his Chief of Staff, Aaron Pritchard.  "Grosso Near You" will take place four Thursday's a month at four rotating coffee shops in D.C. We will announce a regular schedule after the first round of meetings.

Also join Grosso and over 2,000 marchers this Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 10:00 am on the National Mall for the citizen-led March on Washington for Gun Control.

Marchers will gather at 10:00 a.m. at the U.S. Capitol Reflecting Pool on Third Street, NW, across from the National Museum of the American Indian. At 11:00 a.m., marchers will walk in silence along Constitution Avenue to the Washington Monument carrying hundreds of white signs, with each representing the name of a victim to gun violence. Leading the march and carrying a banner that reads "When we stand together, we stand a chance" will be Newtown families, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Mayor Vincent Gray and Councilmembers Kenyan McDuffie and Tommy Wells.

Grosso also encourages each of you to keep an eye out for the homeless, elderly and other vulnerable populations during this "hypothermia alert" that has been issued by the District government.

A "hypothermia alert" is issued by the District government when the actual or forecasted temperature, including the wind chill factor, is 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below.  Please contact the shelter hotline at 1-800-535-7252 or 311 (Mayor's Call Center) to seek help for someone who is homeless and in need of assistance and also do some proactive community outreach by donating food, blankets, scarves, gloves, hats, and any other warm supplies to help save the lives of D.C.'s homeless population during this hypothermia season.

Sincerely,
Dionne Johnson Calhoun
