Portfolio and Photo Sequencing Workshop
2208 MLK Jr. Ave SE
[202] 758.0339
Cost: $40
Making a photo book? Applying to grad school? Assembling a portfolio?
Have a lot of great work but no direction?
This workshop is targeted toward seasoned amateurs and professionals who can benefit from an intelligent peer review of their work. Each of the seven workshop attendees will bring 20-30 prints--yes prints are required to attend this workshop*--and spread them out on a large table for everyone in the workshop to see. You then have 20 minutes to present a body of work, get honest feedback, and defend your intentions. This workshop is not for people who can only handle positive Flickr comments. You will receive real feedback to help you move forward (or perhaps sideways, or not at all) on a specific project.
*Vivid Solutions DC Archival Print Lab (VS Print Lab) is hosting this workshop. If you are in need of prints for the workshop please be in touch (202.758.0339/ahopearchdc@gmail.com/ sholloway@archdc.org). A wonderful discount is available for workshop attendees!! Please be in touch at least 3 days prior to the workshop to coordinate printing.
Photo Sequencing Exercise
At the end of the portfolio presentations, workshop attendees will divide into smaller groups and be presented with a photo editing assignment. Each team will harvest a small series of photographs from a larger pile of themed prints, sequence the work by taping chosen prints onto one wall of the gallery, and have to defend the resulting layout to everyone in the room. Think of it as putting together a mini-book (what's the cover? what's the lead page? facing pages? last image?) or perhaps an online photo gallery.
Who's leading the workshop?
Joshua Yospyn is a professional freelance photographer based in Washington, DC who has freelanced for the Washington Post, Washingtonian, MSNBC, and over the past two years he's created over 300 photo stories for TBD.com and ABC7's website, WJLA.com. VS Print Lab's team of fine art printers, photographers Shannon Holloway and Andrea Hope, will also be hosting the workshop.
What's the cost?
The workshop is $40 per person and everyone is required to bring 20-30 prints. Preferably 8x10 or 8x12 in size, but we're flexible on this. Not too small that we can't tell what's going on, but not too big that we can't fit all your prints on the table. The workshop is limited to seven people.
Will there be food and drink?
We will have snacks and beverages on hand.
When and where is the workshop?
The workshop will be held on November 8th from 7-10 p.m. There is a seven person limit. To reserve your spot please call 202.758.0339. Payment is required to reserve you seat prior to the workshop.
The Workshop will be located at Vivid Solutions DC Archival Print Lab, 2208 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE, in Historic Anacostia just over the 11th bridge and a 10 minute walk from the Greenline Anacostia Metro Station. Street parking is available.
