WARD 8 FARMERS MARKET UPDATE

Where Ward 8 Feeds Ward 8

A lot of food, media and customers.

At this time of year, you can find it all.

The apples are coming.  We have greens.  The first of the autumn varieties are beginning to arrive (keep your fingers crossed for sweet potatoes in the next few weeks.)  The summer crops -- tomatoes, corn peaches, plums are abundant and at their peak.  It doesn't get much better than this, yum.

The Washington Post can't keep away.

They helped launch our free shuttle bus service, connecting both of our locations to whole Ward. (Article here).  They covered us when PG county began providing Maryland food benefits in the middle of our market.  We were featured as part of their coverage of Delta Sigma Theta's Community Day at THEARC.

Can you help?

Our season has been, in one important way, a little too successful.  All the attention we have gotten has meant that our Bonus Fund (The one that allows food assistance to double the value of their vouchers) is draining faster than we'd planned and we may have to cut back the program.  If you are in a position to help us replenish this fund, we would be grateful for any donation, large or small.

EVERY PENNY OF PAYPAL DONATIONS WILL GO TO THE BONUS DOLLARS FUND.
