Volunteers Wanted: June 27 – July 1 and July 4 - 8

You are invited to apply to become a volunteer at Citified: Arts and Creativity East of the Anacostia River, to be held on the National Mall at the 46th annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival, June 27 – July 1 and July 4 - 8.

The Citified program will explore the ways in which the neighborhoods east of the Anacostia river in  Washington, D.C.,  are connected through arts and creativity by performing music, telling stories, and creating art that represents the neighborhood. This Festival program looks at creativity, identity, and community in Far Southeast Washington, D.C., neighborhoods. Presented in collaboration with the Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum, it highlights the connections among residents of urban communities as expressed through arts and creativity. Citified alludes to the fact that many African American residents living east of the Anacostia River have parents or grandparents who migrated from the rural South, particularly South and North Carolina, and who continue to maintain connections with their southern (although often no longer rural) heritage.

During the Festival, volunteers may be asked to assist stage managers, help with the audiovisual recording of performances, and provide general administrative support. These are only a few of the opportunities available to volunteers. Volunteers may be asked to assist with participants’ arrivals and departures in the few days before and after the Festival as well. You must be 16 years or older to apply.
