Join DCPL and the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company for a construction tour of one of Washington's most historic entertainment venues. Built in 1910, the Beaux-Arts Howard Theatre, designed by J. Edward Storck, showcased many of the early and mid-twentieth century's great black musical artists such as Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. Vacant for nearly 30 years, it was listed as one of Washington's Most Endangered Places in 1999. Years of advocacy and fundraising by the Howard Theatre Restoration, Inc. will result in the building's return to use in early 2012.
