ABOUT: Picture Equality: An Evening of Empowerment Through Photography is Critical Exposure's 4th annual reception and silent auction to provide opportunities for low-income youth to learn to use photography as an advocacy tool for school reform and social change. The auction will consist of images donated by world-class photographers, including Pulitzer Prize winners and contributors to National Geographic. All funds raised will be used to support Critical Exposure's programs.
Founded in 2004, Critical Exposure uses a unique approach to empower young people to improve their lives and address serious issues by combining art with advocacy. Students use photography to document challenges they face like inequities in education, poor school facilities, teen pregnancy, and youth homelessness. Students then learn to use their images and voices to build support for solutions. Critical Exposure has trained more than 1,000 students and helped secure more than $500 million of new funding for public schools in underserved communities.
