Tonight: Community Mtng To Discuss Corner of MLK & Good Hope Rd

UPDATE: Meeting starts at 6:00pm not 6:30pm

Hello Folks--

What's the plan?
Sorry for the late notice but I just literally heard about this meeting.  Tonight's meeting is being hosted by the DC Department of Housing and Community Development to discuss what has happened and what will happen (I think) regarding 1201 and 1203 Good Hope Rd SE. For those of you unfamiliar, we are talking about the corner of Good Hope Rd and Martin Luther King Jr. Ave  SE in Anacostia where the Anacostia Gateway Mural once stood. The mural was dismantled in order to demolish the collapsing building behind it.  Much as been written and said about DHCD's actions and plans for this location.  Come to tonight's meeting to hear it straight from the horse's mouth and of course chime in on what you would like to see happen at this corner.

Tonight's meeting starts at 6:30pm 6:00pm at the DHCD building located at 1800 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, SE across the street from the site.  I am not sure, but I think the meeting will be held in the community resource room on the main floor -- entrance closest to the corner MLK and Good Hope Rd.

Just got the email regarding tonight's meeting (originally went out on 8/4/11):

Hi All,

A couple of weeks ago, you attended a meeting with Director Hall , Department of Housing and Community Development ( DHCD ) to get an update on the status of demolition activities at the 1201-1203 Good Hope Road site. In the meeting, Director Hall instructed that I coordinate the next follow up meeting with the group.  In polling the group, and checking with your extremely busy schedules, it appears that Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 6:00 pm works best for a follow up meeting. The meeting will be held in the Housing and Community Development Resource Center at 1800 MLK , on the ground floor.
At the meeting with the Director, DHCD was asked to :
1) Connect with the DC Department of Transportation (DDOT) to get information on the potential impact on the surrounding community of the vibrations that have been caused by the construction activities on the 11th Street Bridge.
DDOT and the engineering firm who monitors and reports on the environmental impact on and around the construction site will provide an impact update
2) Coordinate the community process to determine what the short term solution will be for 1201-1203 Good Hope Road.
The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) will join us to present the process that they will use to quickly get us to a consensus. We will include the ideas that you have given us in previous meetings, as well as some ideas that the DCCAH team has seen work in other  places.
PLEASE Note: We need your Ideas. If you have an idea that you have Not shared with us, please email them to me by cob mid day Monday , August 8,2011
See You All on Tuesday
