FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SATURDAY, MAY 21, 2011
11:00 am to 3:00 pm
Congress St. and 13th Place
On Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 11:00am - 3:00pm, Pastor R. Joyce Scott and the Inspired By GOD Fellowship Ministry and other community leadership and pastors will kick off their "2011 SUMMER COMMUNITY OUTREACH" at 13th Pl. & Congress St. SE. The theme is one totally spiritual...BOOTS ON THE GROUND...TIME TO TURN IT AROUND...WE ARE SOLDIERS IN THE ARMY OF THE LORD!!!
Saturday’s kick off is the first that will be held around the community this summer. The location for Saturday will be at the location where four young men were victims of a drive by shooting on Sunday, January 2, 2011. Two of the young men, both 21, Tavon Bell and Brian Scott were the grandsons of Dr. R. Joyce Scott, Pastor of INSPIRED BY GOD FELLOW SHIP MINISTRY. Brian, the father of a 1 year old daughter, died that day and became the first homicide victim of 2011. Tavon Bell, the father of a 2 year old daughter, was just recently released from the hospital in a wheel chair and will have eye surgery in his only good eye on Monday. Tavon Bell will be at this event and will speak.
Pastor Scott has for years worked the streets against gun violence before becoming an ordained minister. She now understands that it's spiritual warfare in the streets. In her sermons, Pastor Scott has preached on several occasions that "GOD DOESN’T DO DRIVE BY'S" THE DEVIL DOES!!!
On Saturday at 13th Place & Congress St. where Pastor Scott's grandsons and (former) Council member Sandy Allen’s grandson were victims of gun violence, "BOOTS ON THE GROUND" 2011 SUMMER SPIRITUAL OUTREACH will kick off!!! In the spot where the enemy drop our grandchildren!!! WE WILL CRUSH THE DEVILS HEAD AND PROCLAIM THIS STREET FOR PEACE IN THE NAME OF JESUS. IT'S NO LONGER "POLITICAL IT'S PRAYFUL".
Ms. Jefferies, mother of Brishell who was killed in a drive-by shooting (massacre) that claimed nine in March 2010, will be hosting their annual motorcycle ride. They will be leaving from the Giant parking lot in the 1500 block of Alabama Ave., SE. Pastor Scott met Ms. Jefferies when she spoke at Pastor Scott's 2010 Peace In The Streets event (not knowing that in less than a year she too would have loved ones as victims). Ms. Jefferies will bring the motorcycle memorial riders pass the 'BOOTS" event where she will speak before continuing their route to the Mall.
DJ Rico of 102.3, the nephew of Pastor Scott, and Ms. Natalie Williams, President and CEO of Blitz Association, will co- host the event. Gospel Recording Artist Rev. Vernon Burch will be rendering music from his new CD release. The Inspired By GOD Community Outreach Choir will entertain and the youth will perform a praise dance. Three white "DOVES OF PEACE" will be released. Sixteen white balloons will be tied to the hand rail where sixteen year old Raheem Jackson was killed in a drive-by in the 1300 blk of Congress St. on April 8th.
Speakers include Pastor Mildred Chatmon (lost son to gun violence), Bonnie Scott (mother of Brian Scott), Tavon Bell, cousin who was shot with Brian Scott, Asst. Police Chief Diane Grooms, Ex. Dir. Of United Black Fund Barry LeNoir , former Councilmember Sandy Allen, Commissioner Sandra Seegars, Peaceoholics CEO Ron Moten, Councilmember Marion Barry, Tiasiah Hines who lost son to gun violence and Pastor Ronny Smith.
WHEN POLITICS DON'T WORK, PRAYER WILL!!!
Thank you and have a safe and great day.
