Community Tree Planting applications for fall 2011 schedule due June 15

Casey Trees looks to build on success of record-breaking spring season.

(Washington, D.C. — May 12, 2011) Casey Trees is currently accepting applications for participation in the fall 2011Community Tree Planting (CTP) program. The deadline for applications is June 15.

Groups or individuals who apply before the deadline will be considered for the CTP fall planting schedule, which will run from October to December. Applications may be submitted via mail, e-mail or fax. Accepted applicants will work with Casey Trees staff and a Lead Citizen Forester to assist with project organization.

Established in 2005, the CTP program provides trees, tools, and technical assistance to individuals and groups interested in adding 10 or more trees to private property in the District free of charge. Groups who receive the CTP service commit to watering and caring for the trees for two years following their planting. More than 4,000 trees have been planted across the District through the CTP program.

During the 2011 spring season, the Casey Trees staff and volunteers planted more than 770 trees at 44 events across the District, including 21 schools. It was the program’s most successful season to date, with an increase of more than 220 trees and 24 events compared to the fall 2010 season.
