We need some change in ANC 8C. We need YOU!

The Advoc8te is not expecting much in the way of accomplishments at tonight's ANC 8C meeting;  however, I could be wrong. The election for new ANC commissioners is only 4 months away and it is looking like there will be some new challengers in the race for ANC 8C Commissioners.

I still don't understand why some commissioners will literally fight and fight  like mad  to retain an ANC seat yet do absolutely nothing (including attend) once they get it. It's absurd.

As much as The Advoc8te would like to be the biggest cheerleader for ANC 8C, the truth speaks for itself.  To be fair, some commissioners have tried to effect change but they can not do it alone. The current commission as a whole is not working, hasn't worked in a while, and all signs are pointing to it never working. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.  The Advoc8te hopes the community attends, asks questions, gets involved and demands more (as in new commissioners).

There are two thousand registered voters in each Single Member District;  I am sure there are some great community members with the skills, the passion, the vision, the commitment, the SANITY,  the time,  and the qualifications to do an excellent job.  We need to identify some of those awesome community stakeholders and encourage them to get involved and run in this next ANC election.  Once elected we need to give them the support they need so they can succeed, so our ANC can succeed.  We can no longer allow the same handful of  people to run ( usaully unopposed) in each ANC election because either they have intimidated anyone else from running or because those of us in the community are fed up with all the tomfoolery and have given up.  We need to get involved, period.  "We are the change that we seek" and that "change" may be in the form of a 21 year old college student or a 65 year old grandmother - we just need some competent and committed change.

Ward 8 can not afford another two years of the "same old same old" (we see where that has gotten us).  If our current commissioners were so competent wouldn't we have seen some progress by now? Wouldn't our section of MLK Avenue look more befitting a proactive commission? Close your eyes and imagine MLK and Malcolm X free of trash, full of flowers, with inviting and responsible businesses, with children playing in the parks.  Our community could be so much better with some new blood, some new insight and some need ideas.

Maybe that person is you?
