Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray said he was pleased to win unanimous Council approval of a public alley closing bill to pave the way for the construction of a new medical clinic that will serve more than 30,000 patients annually in the Bellevue neighborhood of Ward 8.

The health and social services facility will be a part of a 436,000-square feet development project owned by City Interests LLC. The project will encompass five buildings to include affordable housing, a grocery store, other retail, office, and parking garage space. The alley closing will allow City Interests to join its property bounded by Atlantic, Chesapeake and South Capitol Streets, Southwest.
