The results are in...we have the best of the worst.

First -  I hate Blogger - it is always eating my posts.

Second - If you voted in the Washington City Paper's annual "Best of DC" contest, "Thanks.". If you voted for CHOTR for "Best Blog/Blogger" double "thanks." If you didn't vote for CHOTR then I hope a giant crow comes along and plucks your eyes out - just kidding (kind of- lol). :)

Anyhoo.

I just reviewed the "Best of Winners" and lest my eyes be a foolin' me it looks like River East/East of the River came out on top in only one category. One single solitary category. “What may that be?” you ask.

BEST LOCAL SCANDAL

That was our single solitary reader’s choice EPIC FAIL win.

Let’s marinate on that for just a minute.

To be fair we (EotR) don't have as many amenities as our District brethren across the River but damn. You would think that between two Wards of over 150,000 people we would have racked up at least one category for something other than what boils down to a public endorsement that Ward 8 has the “best” of the “worst” – the-pimp-struttin-no-tax-paying-conflict-of-interest-hustlin Mayor for life.

I remain hopefully that as things continue to progress and more folks take the plunge and eat.live.shop. River East that things will look up, word will get out and we will take home the top prize in one of these categories – a good category – soon.

This year’s contest wasn’t a total loss...I guess. The Washington City Paper did throw us two bones in the form of two “Best of DC” Staff Picks and I include those below.

Perhaps it’s time for The Advoc8te to launch Congress Heights on the Rise “Best of River East” contest? Hmmm….I like the sound of that.

WCP STAFF PICK: Best Library Dispute
Washington Highlands
"There’s nothing like a city offering to build a brand-spanking-new library that gets people up in arms. We don’t want it! Take it back! The initial design for the Washington Highlands library, by British “starchitect” David Adjaye, prompted complaints from some over its “futuristic pod design” and the lack of community input they say led to it." WCP STAFF PICK: Best Coffee Shop East of the River
Big Chair Coffee n’ Grill
"Yes, Big Chair is the only new coffee shop east of the Anacostia River—it’s the only one, period—but it’s still the best. There’s coffee! There are chairs! Marion Barry paid a visit on opening day in January, and the place will no doubt become a must-stop on the 2010 campaign circuit. (Mayoral hopeful Leo Alexander and At-Large D.C. Council candidate Clark Ray have both held events there already.) But don’t let any of that ruin it for you. Coffee snobs should know that Big Chair is now brewing its Joe with an Ethiopian bean in addition to its usual Java brand." KEEP READING
