Wilson is acting president of the River East Emerging Leaders, a nonprofit community action group begun in February 2009 that comprises roughly 100 area residents. The group's goal is to stimulate economic development and civic interaction in those struggling neighborhoods east of the Anacostia River.

What is the mission of your organization?

How did REEL get started?

We did some park cleanups. We did a green jobs forum. We're still really at day 1 1/2, but we've been working hard to build the organization.
