Recording of Advisory Neighborhood Commission Meetings Can't Be Outlawed.

As you may know The Advoc8te always audio records ANC 8C meetings. In addition to providing access to meetings to residents who may be unable to attend the meetings it is an easy way to keep track of meetings - especailly meeings where meeting minutes are not always accessible (as is the case of ANC 8C which as of March 2009 only recorded minutes for 3 meetings out of 30).  Most importantly it is a wonderful tool to encourage transparency and adherance to the laws and regulations involving ANCs; whenever I hear of ANCs discouraging the recording of meetings I am always curious as to what they have to hide.

The Advoc8te strongly encourages residents and Commissions to record (audio or visual) their ANC meetings.

Congress Heights on the Rise is always happy to post River East ANC Commission recordings here.  Feel free to send them and The Advoc8te will post them. Send them over to congressheightsontherise@gmail.com or post them to a web sharing service like imeem.com and send me the link.

Including some video of Gottlieb Simon, Executive Director for the Advisory Neighborhood Commissions in which he states clearly that ANCs can not ban the recording of Advisory Neighborhood Commission Meetings.
