"DPR Beautification Day," Saturday, June 13, 2009, from 8 am to 12 noon

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty announced the first "DPR Beautification Day" in preparation for summer recreation. The Mayor was joined by Ximena Hartsock, Acting Director of the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), and others at the Barry Farm Recreation Center in Southeast Washington.

The first ever DPR Beautification Day is being held on Saturday, June 13, 2009, from 8 am to 12 noon at 61 DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) sites across the District.

"I invite all District residents and community organizations to be part of DPR Beautification Day," said Mayor Fenty. "This day is an opportunity for us to work together to support and celebrate the important role parks and recreation centers have in our neighborhoods."

DPR Beautification Day is a citywide effort focusing on sprucing up DPR centers and parks in preparation for summer through a combined effort of DPR, community organizations, and residents. DPR Beautification Day activities will consist of trash pickup, interior cleaning, and light landscaping. A complete list of DPR Beautification Day sites is available on DPR's website, dpr.dc.gov.

"I look forward to welcoming everyone to this special and exciting day for DPR," said DPR Acting Director Hartsock. "DPR Beautification Day is an opportunity for all of us to display our pride in our public parks and recreation centers."

Advance registration is not required for DPR Beautification Day; volunteer registration will take place at each site. For more information about DPR Beautification Day, contact DPR's Office of Partnerships and Development at (202) 258-6021 or by email at DPRpartnerships@dc.gov.
