DC EXAMINER: DC recieves nearly $90 million in stimulus funds
WASHINGTON
D.C. officials say the city will receive $89.3 million in federal stimulus funds, most of which will be applied to public education.
The city's Office of the State Superintendent of Education already has applied for the money. Kerri Briggs, acting state superintendent, says the funds will begin to flow within weeks into D.C. public schools, public charter schools and the University of the District of Columbia.
Briggs says the money will help improve low-performing schools, among other things.
A smaller share of the federal funds, $6.5 million, will be used to help D.C. residents buy homes.
