CHOTR Question Of The Day: Is Gentrification a bad thing or a good thing?

Webster's Dictionary of Gentrification:

Function: noun:
GENTRIFICATION: the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle-class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces earlier usually poorer residents

Fewer words can illicit a more passionate and a variety of responses in River East than "gentrification". Some welcome it; others fear it; others ignore it with hopes it will just go away and there is always a group of folks who pin all their hopes and dreams on this 14 letter word - GENTRIFICATION.
