SUMMER YOUTH JOB EXPO MARCH 25 - 26

The Advoc8te hopes that this summer the district can run this properly this time. I could not fatham running a payroll project like this one was run last summer - to be fair I have a lot of years experience in staffing and recruiting but still - from all reports last years program was run very poorly from the door. Hopefully this time the city will outsource to an experienced private employment agency.
Together We Can! Attend Mayor Adrian M. Fenty’s 2009 Summer Youth Job Expo March 25-26 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center from 10 am to 6 pm. Youth will have the opportunity to meet employers, attend workshops, interview, and choose their job preferences. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty's Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) serves youth who are 14 to 21 years of age.
The program provides a mechanism through which eligible youth are able to earn money while gaining meaningful work experience, skills-oriented training, and career exposure. The SYEP provides an array of summer enrichment experiences that consists of Arts, Design and Media, Building and Grounds Maintenance, Community and Social Services, Construction Trades, Education, Training and Library Science, Health Care Support, Hospitality and Tourism, Office and Administration Support and Sports and Physical Education.
This year's program will operate from June 18 through August 21, 2009.
The 10 week program has launched several new features; this year participants will be able register online, select their jobs, and locate important information about their worksite via our website. For questions and comments please email SummerJobs@dc.gov.
