EMERGENCY PREPARDNESS TRAINING SESSIONS FOR WARDS 7 AND 8

The District of Columbia is vulnerable to disasters of various types – flooding, tornados, ice & snowstorms, power outages and terrorist attacks. In order to assure that you and your family are as prepared as possible for these possible events, the Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA) will be hosting three training session across Wards 7 and 8.


Each meeting includes a wealth of information from district agencies, free items to be used in a disaster and the chance to participate in a simulation of a possible event, in order to learn what steps you and your family can take to prepare for a disaster, discuss and plan with your neighbors and community leaders to get ready and find out about the best routes to use if an evacuation is necessary.

The first scheduled event is Saturday January 31, 2009 10 a.m. at the Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church, 3000 Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church, a second scheduled event is Saturday February 7, 2009 10 a.m. at the Marshall Heights Community Development Organization, Inc., 3939 Benning Road SE and a third event Friday February 20, 2009 at THEARC, 1901 Mississippi Avenue SE. These are free to all local residents, neighborhood leaders and representatives of community and civic organizations. Refreshments and certificate of completion will be provided.
