"Congress Heights Main Streets is open for business. This organization is designed to support the establishment and implementation of lasting, comprehensive revitalization in the Congress Heights business district.

The Congress Heights Main Streets goal is to support retail investment in the District through the retention and expansion of existing businesses and the recruitment of new businesses.The Congress Heights Main Streets program is based on the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s nationally proven model, which includes work in the areas of organization of commercial revitalization efforts, promotion of neighborhood businesses and business districts, design (physical environment) and economic restructuring (business and property development).The Main Streets approach provides local organizations with a mechanism to manage their neighborhood commercial districts and create a structure to implement commercial revitalization activities that will achieve the stakeholders’ goals for their commercial district.Congress Heights Main Streets is here to serve your business."

Your involvement is critical to the success of the Congress Heights Main Streets. During this season of change, we need support from the community as well as the businesses in Congress Heights . We have 4 important committees of Congress Heights Main Streets that you can join to help transform the MLK Jr. corridor from Milwaukee Place, S.E. to 4th Street, S.E. The committees include:

Design Committee, Lolita Lee, Chair Economic Restructuring Committee, Nate Howard, Chair Organization Committee, Jose Muse, Chair Promotions Committee, Jennifer Carter and Linda Martin, Co-Chairs

Economic RestructuringObjective: To develop a market strategy that will result in an improved retail mix, a stronger tax base, increased investor confidence, and a stable role for the Congress Heights business district as a major component of the city’s economy. Projects: Retail recruitment activities, retail design strategy

Design Objective: To create an attractive, coordinated and quality image of the Congress Heights historic district by capitalizing on its unique assets and heritage. Projects: Banner design and implementation, retail design strategy, porch painting project

Promotion Objective: To market a unified quality image of the Congress Heights business district as the center of activities, goods, and services to retailers, residents and other shoppers, investors, and tourists. Projects: Special events aimed at image enhancement, public relation/press coverage

Organization Objectives: To recruit and develop new leadership and volunteers and to lead fundraising efforts. Projects: Annual meeting, membership development
