9 years over $85,000 in office space rent

Although ANC 8C currently holds their community meeetings at the UPO Petey Greene Center, ANC 8C also maintains rented office space on the top floor of what is currently a barber shop at 3125 Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE.

"Office Rent" was the only reported expense for ANC 8C for fiscal year 2007 and ANC 8C is also the only ANC in Ward 8 that reported paid for office space (per the Fiscal Year 2007 Annual Report). Despite renting office space there is no working office phone or fax for ANC 8C.


It is unclear exactly how long the office space has been rented however it appears as though the space has been rented for at least 16 years. Per a 2002 DC Audit of ANC 8C's financial records:

"The Auditor noted that ANC 8C had not signed a new lease agreement with its landlord at the time of the Auditor's field work. The ANC has leased the office space it presently occupies for more than 10 years and currently pays monthly rent of $700 on a month-to-month basis in the absence of a signed lease agreement. ANC 8C's Chairperson stated that she had contacted the landlord, would sign a lease agreement shortly, and would forward a copy of the agreement to the Auditor. The Auditor cautions ANC 8C's Chairperson that the lease agreement must be approved first by a majority of the ANC 8C Commissioners in a public meeting and recorded in the minutes of the meeting."


Below is a analysis of the office rent that was reported by ANC 8C over the course of 9 years (1998 - 2007). Information was pulled from DC Auditor Annual Fiscal Reports and from two DC Auditor Audit reports. Please note that the anaylsis does not include figures from fiscal year 2003 because it was not published on the DC Auditor website.












According to the DC Auditor Annual Reports and Audit Reports over the course of nine years ANC 8C issued checks for nearly $90,000 for "office rent".
