SMALL AREA PLANNING MEETING FOR POPULAR POINT
Tuesday, October 7th 6pm at Matthews Memorial (2616 MLK)
Very important meeting which decides what needs to where for the community, very critical part.
QUALITY CONVIENCE STORES REQUEST FOR A LICENSE TO SELL BEER AND WINE
As expected this was very controversial. The owner of 14 years was requesting a liquor license because she indicated she was losing business to the newly opened convience store across the street. Understandably there were many concerns from the community about another outlet for beer and alcohol especially considering there is a large liquor store directly across the street and their have been community complaints/accusations about the store's practice of taxing food and the unprofessionalism of it's employees. At one point the owner got into a shouting match with Commissioner Edwards accusing him of targeting her store and making false accusations. Several audience members suggested that the owner look into offering different good or services - both much needed in the neighborhood.
