Who is CHARLES WILSON and how can YOU support him?

Dear Ward 8,
It's time that we as a community UNITE and support a change for ourselves...for OUR ward. We have to let go of the fear, the silence, the apathy, the distrust....we have to stop accepting sub par quality and empty promises from those outside and within our ward.

In short we need a change and I truly feel that a big part of that change will come in electing a NEW councilman. We need someone who still has the hope, drive and desire to do the RIGHT thing. Not the right thing for themselves or their political ambition. Someone who understands and embraces the ever evolving face of Ward 8 and it's residents and encourages their participation and input all while wanting to preserve the rich history of the ward...our home.

In short we need a NEW pair of eyes. Eyes that can look at the streets, buildings and residents and not just see the challenges but the solutions...the promise.

I know that CHARLES WILSON and the "We Set The Tone" campaign is the answer and I hope that we as a ward can get behind Charles and support him by not just voting for him in the September 9th primary but also by volunteering and donating to his campaign. People are needed to advocate for the Charles Wilson campaign and for the Ward 8, Monday - Friday from 7am and 9am at metro stops in Ward 8. Come out and bring the kids and wave signs and reach out to your community...for a half hour...an hour or the entire 2 hours. Just come out and let your voice join all the others that are working toward a big and lasting change.

WE SET THE TONE.

Yours Truly,
The Advocate

ABOUT CHARLES WILSON

Early Years
Charles is a proud Ward 8 resident residing in the Historic Anacostia Neighborhood. Born in Hampton Virginia on March 8, 1976 in a military family, Charles was raised around the world living and traveling to far away places such as the Philippines, Korea, Japan and Panama. He graduated from Largo High School in Largo, Maryland and completed his undergraduate degree in Accounting at Hampton University.
While enjoying the college experience, Charles discovered his passion for civic service. He was able to develop his leadership skills while serving as his class president for four consecutive years. After leaving Hampton, Charles continued his studies at the University of Baltimore School of Law. While a student at Baltimore, Charles continued to hone these skills while serving as the Student Bar Association President for two years. These two experiences made Charles realize that in order to bring the improvements that we seek in life, it takes people working as a team to achieve results.

Work Experience

Since graduating from law school, Charles has utilized both his business and legal background working for several of the Big Four Accounting firms performing consulting services on behalf of major corporations, government agencies and universities. His work includes performing internal control evaluation and business plan development. Working in this field, Charles is constantly working in the fast-paced, high-stress environment required to meet client deadlines.

Living in Ward 8
Charles has been a Washington DC resident for the past six (6) years. Immediately upon moving to the Ward 8 community, he became a part of the fabric of the neighborhood and actively engaged himself in helping it become the great community he believes we can be. In 2006, he co-founded the Historic Anacostia Block Association (HABA), a civic organization where both new and established residents work together to promote the welfare of the community (http://www.habainc.com/). Since its establishment, HABA, under Charles' leadership, spearheaded the effort that brought nearly $1,000,000 in grant money from the District of Columbia's Historic Preservation Office for residents to improve, upgrade, and beautify the facade of their homes. What Charles is most proud of is that he was able to help bring the various demographics of the community together to work to improve the quality of life.

HABA also likes to have fun by hosting social events such as community tours, Christmas Caroling in Historic Anacostia, and salsa and hand dancing lessons.
Charles is also an active member of the Anacostia Coordinating Council and the Ward 8 Democrats. He served as the Ward 8 Democrat's Corresponding Secretary last election cycle. He remains active by participating in the organization's fundraisers and monthly meetings.

As your next Council member, Charles has vowed to Set the Tone by:
advocating the interests of all Ward 8 citizens;
supporting the community's grass roots, civic, social and ANC organizations; and
highlighting the options we have in helping to decide on the local development of our community.
