❤️ #SoutheastLove for my Day 1, David Garber
David Garber, my bestie and the blogger behind the now-retired And Now, Anacostia may have moved to California but he will always have a place in our Southeast Love hearts! P.S. David is looking 🔥 these days! Someone is definitely living their best life! 😂
I digress, many years ago and the night before Valentine’s Day while working at The HIVE, David and I came up with the idea for Southeast Love Day. Fueled by the outrage of someone earlier that day throwing social media shade on the Southeast quadrant made us want to offer a new perspective on a very old narrative. So David and I decided to make a sign (thank God for David’s photoshop skills) and spread some love via social media posts. And that my dear, is how #SoutheastLove was born!
So the next day, on Southeast Love Day (formerly known as Valentine’s Day) David and I hit the streets with our sign taking photos of the people, places and things we loved about Southeast — both sides of the river.
This is a picture of David with our original sign in front of the Nationals stadium. It’s funny how when some people say negative things about Southeast they always seem to forget that the baseball stadium and Navy Yard are in Southeast or that some of the District’s biggest and most significant historical icons and political symbols are located in Southeast!
Including some snaps from some of our Southeast Love adventures over the years!
