๐ŸŒŸ Help Re-Tree DC By Getting FREE Trees Today! [SP]

Did you know - trees provide more benefits than the average person realizes?

Trees are responsible for providing clean air in polluted cities, absorbing stormwater runoff to protect our waterways, saving money on electricity bills, creating healthier communities, calming traffic, mitigating climate change, and so much more!

Unfortunately, DC has seen a staggering loss of tree canopy in the last 5 years - and for the first time since 2006, the District saw a net 1% canopy cover decline.

While 1% seems small, this decline is equal to 565 acres, an area roughly the size of the National Mall, and is a major setback to reaching the Cityโ€™s goal of 40% tree canopy by 2032.

Loss of canopy is detrimental to the city and has led to adverse effects that fall back on DC residents. Due to the constant threat of development, Wards 5, 7, and 8 are the most vulnerable to canopy loss in the District โ€“ and thatโ€™s why Casey Trees prioritizes outreach and planting to residents in these historically underserved areas of the city.

Casey Trees is a Washington, DC based nonprofit, established in 2001, committed to restoring, enhancing and protecting the tree canopy of the nationโ€™s capital. To fulfill this mission, we plant trees, engage thousands of volunteers of all ages in tree planting and care, provide year-round continuing education courses, monitor the cityโ€™s tree canopy, develop interactive online tree tools and work with elected officials, developers, and community groups to protect and care for existing trees and to encourage the addition of new ones.

We work to get residents free trees that will accentuate their home and add shade at NO COST. We believe that communities are better because of trees and that EVERYONE deserves equal access to nature.

Green spaces help residents combat stress, anxiety, and depression. Exposure to trees and nature aids concentration by reducing mental fatigue. Access to nature is also associated with fewer sick days and faster recovery times. Trees provide environmental, health, and economic benefits, making them ESSENTIAL for our future.
