Join Anacostia Arts Center, The GoGo Museum, and Luis Del Valle for a celebration of local artists and culture. Nicaraguan-born, District of Columbia-raised, award-winning artist Luis Del Valle has partnered with the Anacostia Arts Center to host “Threads of Hope ”, a curated group exhibition celebrating Hispanic Heritage. On September 16th, “Threads of Hope ” will open with an experience provided in partnership with the GoGo Museum.

Threads of Hope is a reflection and unique celebration of the universal language of art curated by artist Luis Del Valle in collaboration with the Valley Place Arts Collaborative and The Go-Go Museum and Café. The exhibit is made possible by the Anacostia Arts Center and honors the rich cultural tapestry of the immigrant communities of the United States. The participating artists connect the visual and symbolic in ways that provide vivid interpretations to the viewer.

Through paintings, drawings, and photographs created by artists who represent the cultural diversity of our nation, the vast array of immigrant experiences is visually expressed as visions of strength, determination, prosperity, and beauty. Significantly, the works on display are created using refined elements of traditional portraiture and abstract expressionism. The power of portraiture and color in the paintings is volumized by the overlaying of the images of powerful people, famous and little-known, creating new directions for us in our lives. Each work tells a story in bold colors, heavy textures, and loose movement, welcoming viewers to visualize the woven ethnicities that create the fabric of America.

Del Valle is a public artist who builds, maintains, and supports communities through the arts. He believes that artistic development is a critical element in community development; the arts facilitate improvement in quality of life by providing tools to modify behaviors by channeling self-expression into productive work.
