[PR] Arrest Made in an Assault on a Police Officer while Armed Offense: 3400 b/o A Street, SE

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Sixth District announced an arrest has been made in reference to an Assault on a Police Officer while Armed offense that occurred on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, in the 3400 block of A Street, Southeast. 

At approximately 1:46 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location to investigate the report of an unlawful entry offense. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the suspect who fit the given description. As officers attempted to detain the suspect, a struggle ensued. The suspect was able to remove a firearm from his waistband and discharge it one time. The round struck an MPD officer. The suspect was apprehended without further incident by Sixth District officers. The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The suspect’s firearm was recovered on the scene and can be seen in the photo below:

On Tuesday, May 12, 2020, 30 year-old Mark Crawford, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with Assault on a Police Officer while Armed, Resisting Arrest, Felon in Possession, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Receiving Stolen Property. 

As a result of the detectives’ investigation, Crawford was additionally charged with the below two offenses:

Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun): On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at approximately 9:14 am, the suspect entered a residential building in the 3400 block of A Street, Southeast. The suspect approached the victim and brandished a handgun. The suspect threatened the victim then fled the scene. CCN: 20-042-642

Burglary One while Armed (Gun): On Friday, March 13, 2020, at approximately 8:23 am, the suspect forcibly entered an occupied residence in the 100 block of 35th Street, Southeast. Once inside, the suspect brandished a handgun and took the victim’s property. The suspect then fled the scene. CCN: 20-044-541
