🌟 Anacostia Playhouse's First Look Series kicks off with Collected Stories! [SP]
Anacostia Playhouse kicks off its First Look series with Natasha Preston and Adele Robey taking the virtual stage to read Collected Stories, by Donald Margulies. It's under the direction of Bryanda Minix who helmed our New Play Festival. The First Look series tries out plays, new, old and in between that are being considering for future live productions.
In Collected Stories, Ruth Steiner is a teacher and respected short story writer and her student and protégée is Lisa Morrison. Over the course of six years, Lisa journeys from insecure student to successful writer. After publishing a well-received collection of short stories, Lisa writes a novel based on Ruth's affair with a famous poet. The women deal with the moral dilemma of whether a person's life events are suitable for another to use in their own creative process.
Says Adele Robey, "It has been such a joy in these times of shutdown to dive into a play again, even on Zoom, and have the type of creative conversations we've all missed so much. We've wrapped ourselves so much in sanitizer, temperature taking and now vaccination, that we've forgotten how much the "art part" meant to us and how good it feels to start playing again. And such fun to play with Natasha and Bryanda! This is our first opportunity working together like this and will certainly not be the last.
