March 1 | Deadline to apply for Metro’s Art in Transit program for K - 6 School Students

In honor of Earth Day (Saturday, April 22, 2023), Metro’s Art in Transit program is inviting K-6 school students from Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maryland to submit 2-D artworks celebrating the role played by public transportation in protecting our environment, combatting climate change, and supporting sustainable livable communities.

The selected artworks will be included in a bus wrap launched as part of Metro’s celebration of Earth Day.

THEME: Students are invited to submit 2-D artworks raising the awareness of transit’s role in helping to protect the environment.

DEADLINE: All entries must be submitted by Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 11:59 pm.

ELIGIBILITY: This call is open to young artists from Kindergarten to 6th grade located in Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maryland. Participants  may attend public, private, or home school. Submitted artwork must be original and cannot have been previously exhibited.

By submitting an artwork, parents and/or guardians agree that the artwork can be reproduced for the purpose of this call, and any associated promotional material, including social media.

There is no entry fee for this call.

SELECTION: The Metro Art in Transit Program will select one (1) artwork from each one of the Compact jurisdictions (Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maryland). Each selected artwork will be printed on a bus wrap. The selected artworks will be announced on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

REQUIREMENTS: Each student may enter one (1) piece of artwork. Work entered must be an original composition created by the entrant. Participants may submit 2-D artworks that are either a drawing, print, or painting.

Photo of the artwork created must be submitted via email to metroart@wmata.com.

File should be uploaded as a high-quality photograph in JPEG or PDF format.

Files must be labeled as follow: Last Name/First Name/Title of Work/Full School Name and Grade

Attn: Art in Transit Program

Parents and/or guardians of the student whose work has been selected will be required to execute a written release authorizing WMATA to use the selected artwork and the student’s name.

SCHEDULE
Submission Deadline: Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 11:59 pm
Notification of Results: Wednesday, March 8, 2023
Delivery of Artwork by: Friday, March 10, 2023
