Join us for our MahoganyBooks Indie/Penned author series featuring local singer, songwriter, and author La’Verne Washington as she autographs copies of her newest work, The Angels of Dupont Circle.

About the Book:
The homeless citizens of Washington, DC are being murdered! The discovery of the gruesome aftermath of these slain innocent individuals has become a mystery impossible to solve. The District’s Mayor and citizens are demanding answers. This story is a tale of two women detectives whose jobs are on the line, they must find a way to solve the murders. It takes place during the late 1980’s, with homicide detectives Brenda Jackson and Jade Lafont, who work the crime-ridden, politically corrupt streets of Washington, D.C..

The Dupont Circle area, a cosmopolitan neighborhood surrounded by some of Washington, DC’s historic homes and the heart of DC’s nightlife, is an area where some of the bodies have been found.

About the Author:
The author, La’Verne Washington, aka “LV”, has always had a passion for writing, music and literature. She began her journey with the book’s characters, Detectives Brenda Jackson and Jade LaFont over 5 years ago. As the idea developed, she began writing new chapters and pages. The book finally started to take shape and the story was born. It was finally completed in August of 2015 for e-publication. Born and raised in Kansas City, MO, she studied music at Charlie Parker Academy as a student, later as a vocal teacher and administrator. Raised with loving parents in a large family, she was “no. 9” of 10 children. La’Verne attended Langston University, were she received a Bachelors Degree in Journalism/Communications Studies and a minor in Music, located in Oklahoma. Also George Washington University for studies in Interactive Multimedia. She works also as a professional Songwriter, Keyboardist and Vocalist. She has formed several bands and Jazz quartets. She sang and recorded with her church Choir, “The Voices of Bethel” and was one of the founding members of the college gospel group “Emery Shaw and the Voices of Praise”. LaVerne works as an Event Consultant, Musician and contributing staff writer for “Our Community Now” an online magazine, where she lives in the nation’s capital, Washington, DC.

The MahoganyBooks Indie/Penned author series is a specially curated event highlighting independent, self-published authors of African descent. The goal of the series is to give self-published authors a platform to share their insights, stories, and creativity while also providing the reading public access to works often overlooked by publishers and literary agents. The Indie/Penned author series is both a celebration of the drive and creativity of authors who won’t take no for an answer as well as a forum for community discussion, introspection, and action.
