Honfleur Gallery proudly presents the first part of the "Building Me a Home" exhibition series, curated by Melani N. Douglass. This compelling exhibition, "HOME/MADE : FLESH/BONE," will run from July 11 to August 17, 2024, and focuses on the deeply personal and internal aspects of what it means to call a place home.

The "Building Me a Home" series is a profound exploration of the multifaceted concept of home. This ambitious project unfolds in three parts, delving into the internal home we carry within us, the communal and physical home we share, and the global home that connects us all. Each part of the series not only showcases art but also engages the community in meaningful dialogues about our relationship with home, the impacts of displacement, and the fundamental question of whether home is a right.

In HOME/MADE : FLESH/BONE, curated by Melani N. Douglass, pairs her poetic reflections, notes, and research on the concept of home with the evocative photography of Dave McDuffie, who has documented Black culture across ten U.S. cities. This collaboration creates a unique dialogue between visual and literary art, offering visitors a deeply personal experience. By integrating physical elements of home into the gallery, Douglass gradually transforms the space into an intimate environment, encouraging visitors to reflect on their own internal concept of home.

Through this initial exhibition, Douglass engages visitors in contemplating the personal and emotional dimensions of home. The juxtaposition of McDuffie's powerful imagery with Douglass's thoughtful writings invites a meditative experience, allowing viewers to connect with their own memories and feelings associated with home.
