How to donate wall space for a MuralsDC project

👋🏾The Advoc8te’s Two Cents: Not only could Ward 7 and 8 use more murals, Ward 8 could specifically use more murals depicting WOMEN and WOMEN OF COLOR.! Frankly it’s shocking (and more than a bit insulting) how few murals feature women in Ward 8. To be clear, I’m not just suggesting more murals featuring the same one or two women in black history. There are so many amazing women and women of color both in the past and in contemporary times that could and should be featured. Off the top of my head I would love to see a badass mural of Eartha Kitt. There are so many amazing and eclectic members of the culture and it would be great to finally see a more diverse collection of subjects highlighted. There I said it!

MuralsDC
is a project funded by the DC Department of Public Works, in cooperation with the DC Commission on the Arts and the Humanities, and is designed to provide permanent graffiti abatement to those properties that have experienced or are at risk of this type of vandalism. Since its pilot in 2007, MuralsDC has painted more than 85 murals in all wards of the city. While most of the artists are local, the program has worked with artists around and outside of the country.
