Farmworker Justice seeks Staff Attorney - $62k+

This Staff Attorney position will focus primarily on litigation aimed at reforming systemic abuses experienced by farmworkers in agricultural employment and addressing violations of law by federal agencies regarding immigration, labor, and occupational safety and health.  The Staff Attorney will also assist in policy advocacy. The Staff Attorney maintains relationships with public interest legal services organizations, farmworker organizations and others collaborators; publishes analyses and reports; coordinates and conducts training; assists in media outreach; and supports the organization generally. Litigation will usually be co-counseled collaboratively with public interest organizations or private law firms. The Staff Attorney will collaborate with FJ’s President, the Senior Staff Attorney, the Director of Health Policy Programs and other staff. 

The position is in Washington, D.C. but due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Staff Attorney will be expected to work remotely and will likely have the option to continue to work remotely after staff begins to work in person at the office when it is safe to do so. When it is safe to travel, travel will be required for organizational meetings and litigation tasks.

Qualifications

•          JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one state or the District of Columbia.

•          At least 2 years of litigation experience, including in federal court. 

•          Exceptional analytical, writing, speaking and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines. 

•          Demonstrated ability to engage in effective collaborations internally and externally.  

•          Strong commitment to social justice and civil rights for farmworkers and other low-wage immigrant workers and their families.

•          Substantive knowledge of farmworker issues, labor and employment rights, immigration law, and/or occupational safety and health law is highly is desirable.

•          Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable.
