DOES seeks Workforce Development Specialist - $66k to $85k

This position is located in the Department of Employment Services (DOES), Federal Programs Bureau. The mission of DOES is to foster economic development and growth in the District of Columbia by providing workforce training, linking job seekers with employers, compensating unemployed and injured workers and promoting safe and healthy workplaces.

Duties and Responsibilities

Interviews, registers, and occupationally codes applicants. Counsels applicants to identify needs and/or problems to determine appropriate action required or referral to be made, and when necessary, refers applicant to appropriate specialized services such as testing. Provides applicants with pertinent labor market information, job and/or training opportunities geared to need. Screens applicant files against Job Bank listings and refers qualified applicants to jobs.  Assess customers and identifies eligible program participants.

Delivers presentations and conducts orientations on eligibility and program services. Collects, organizes and analyzes information about customers, including records, tests, interviews, and professional sources, to assess their interest, aptitudes, abilities and personality characteristics for vocational and career planning. Provides career advice. Researches and provides customers with information, including educational (school) options, tuition, books, uniforms, and equipment. Teaches various job preparation classes, including resume, employment application, and cover letter writing.

Conducts individual and group sessions on job search readiness, techniques, labor market information, and vocational information.

Qualifications & Experience

Experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, at least one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Experience/Training in fields of social work, psychology, education, guidance, human services or a similar discipline.
