Dec 26 - 29 | Winter Break Acting Camp @ Anacostia Playhouse

Anacostia Playhouse welcomes you to Winter Break Acting Camp, running December 26-29. A number of you have signed up and we still have a couple of slots for those who want to join! Students will get the chance to take workshop classes with theater professionals in fields ranging from acting, improvisation, voice and music, movement, hip hop, clowning, and playwriting. The camp will culminate in a performance presentation for family and friends after camp December 29 at 4 PM, where students will present performances of what they learned throughout the camp. In acting students will learn how to create a character, the experience of working on a scene, and how to work with other actors. In improvisation, students will learn the mechanics of acting without a script, and how to create truthful spontaneous moments on stage. In voice and music, students will learn musical theater technique, and how to use their voices in a healthy way on stage. In movement, students will learn Alexander technique, viewpoints, and Laban movement technique, and will learn hand-to-hand stage combat. In hip hop, students will learn from xCel Hip Hop professionals the history of hip hop and several choreographed hip hop routines.  For clowning, students will learn how to create a clown persona and then entertainment techniques from a professional clown. Lastly, in playwriting students will learn how to write characters and scenes, and will get a chance to write a solo work. Camp will run from 10 AM – 4 PM each day, with a half hour lunch in between workshops. We ask students to bring a bagged lunch with them. We’ll have water and snacks on hand.
