DC Public Library seeks Ward 7 Youth ages 14 - 19 for Teen Council
The Teen Council is one of the DC Public Library's paid leadership opportunities for teens. Teen Council members are expected to be leaders in the library, in their communities, and among their peers.
Am I eligible to apply?
The DC Public Library Teen Council is made up of eight teens representing the eight wards of the District. There are currently openings for representatives from Wards 2, 6 and 7. The library is accepting applicants who live in these wards to join the Council. Preference will be given to applicants in their sophomore or junior year of high school who can commit to up to two years with the Teen Council. To apply for the Teen Council, you must be:
A D.C. resident
14 to 19 years old
Able to work 12 hours per week November 2019 through August 2020
What would I be doing?
Teen Council members have a variety of tasks. The basic job responsibilities are:
Advise the library on teen services and initiatives
Work on projects relating to teen events across the District
Write website and/or social media posts
Deliver great customer service by welcoming people to and answering questions about the library
Providing tech support on public computers and kiosks
Create and lead programs for the public
Get patrons excited about our collections and encourage reading
Assist staff with community outreach and promoting the library to your peers
What will I get in return?
Teen Council members get paid $13.50 per hour. In addition to that wage, you also:
