Continuity in Congress Heights by Jacque Patterson [SP]
I am many things, a father, a veteran, and not least of all a proud resident of Ward 8. My work is always grounded in doing what’s best for my community, and I want nothing more to see my neighbors empowered with opportunity and the ability to effect change in the world around them.
A great education is transformative, which is why I am proud of KIPP DC Schools’ partnership with Somerset Prep Public Charter School, and the future we collectively envision for our children. Every child in Ward 8 deserves an excellent education, and KIPP DC is committed to building on the work Somerset Prep started with their scholars.
Over the past six years, Somerset Prep Public Charter School has worked tirelessly to build a devoted school community that has supported more than 400 young scholars. They’ve done this through an unwavering belief in the potential of the scholars in our community, and a positive culture of achievement and support.
In partnering with Somerset, KIPP DC Schools wants to provide continuity for the community, while building on the great work they’ve started over the past few years. The digital media arts curriculum was a unique aspect of the educational experience for Somerset students, and we’re excited to keep and work to enhance it. As a part of our family, Somerset students will harness our KIPP Through College & Career program—helping them excel in college, careers, and becoming tomorrow’s leaders.
I know the brightest and hardest working scholars in the District are right here in Ward 8. They deserve to continue to have access to a quality education in their very own neighborhood. I’m excited about the partnership between KIPP DC Schools and Somerset Prep Public Charter School, and I’m excited to work towards a brighter future for students and families in my community, together.
