American Progress is seeking a Junior Information Security Analyst to provide operational assistance and support to the Information Security team. The team is responsible for monitoring and responding to security threats, ensuring American Progress makes informed decisions about the responsible use of technology, and providing technical knowledge and expertise related to data security and protection.

The Junior Information Security Analyst will primarily focus on the operation and administration aspects of the Information Security team, performing initial analysis of threats against American Progress’ information systems, organizing and documenting processes, and educating staff on security best practices. The position is based in Washington, D.C, and reports to the Director of Information Security and Operations.

Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities include: 

Operational support  

Monitor and manage day-to-day IT security infrastructure. 

Process, analyze, and respond to staff-submitted phishing emails. 

Support the team in monitoring and evaluation, including tracking, collating, and analyzing data on security incidents and other ongoing security projects.  

Monitor endpoint security alerts and real-time threat detention technologies to identify and quarantine threats. Take corrective action or escalate to the incident response function as a part of the Incident Response team. 

Perform regular system and network audits and coordinate corrective actions to security posture. 

Coordinate with the Desktop Support and Server Operations teams to ensure that systems are properly patched and security baselines are applied correctly.
