🌟ARTIST CALL | Honfleur Artist In Residency 2022 Program [SP]

Honfleur Gallery is delighted to announce the invitation to apply for its 2022 Artist-in-Residence program.

This annual program is a realization of the vision of the late Sharon Hughes Gautier to provide artists with the necessities of time and funding to create their work.

This program is a melding of Honfleur’s ongoing commitment to artists that live and work east of the Anacostia River in Washington DC, Sharon’s passion for art and her appreciation of a community that is so incredibly rich with history and creative talent.

This residency comes with both specific project funding and a monthly stipend. Funding is provided by Sharon’s family.

This program is open to emerging or professional artists in any artistic discipline, including (but not limited to) visual, performing, spoken word, literary arts, film as well as curation of an exhibition. The artist must live in Ward 7 or 8 pursuing research or in the development stage or production of artistic project/exploration.

There is no established format for the proposal. The submittal must be in a word document which includes a detailed description and the time schedule for the project. In excel format, a detailed budget must be provided.

The deadline for submittal of a proposal is March 31, 2022.

Last year’s recipient was JaySun, a multi-talented artist who grew up and currently lives in Anacostia. Project funding was provided to produce a film “Life: On The Rocks” written by Jay Sun. The film depicts how life-long residents of the District of Columbia are feeling the brunt of police brutality and gentrification and how “adjustments” must be made to survive in a city that is pushing the residents out of their own communities.
