7-11 IN ANACOSTIA USES CREATIVE WAY TO COMBAT LOITERING
The Advoc8te is originally from Virginia Beach and I remember how in an effort to curb loitering on the boardwalk, businesses would play opera music during peak or after-hours as a way to curb loitering. I've always wondered why we never tried that here in DC.
According to one sharp-eyed (or eared) Anacostia resident it looks like the 7-11 on Good Hope Rd is thinking outside of the musical box to discourage loitering. If the picture is any indication, it seems to be working. Opera music seems like a much more passive and practical (and not to mention creative) way to curb loitering. Unless of course you love opera music! Who knows? Perhaps this new tactic will increase the number of community opera lovers! I like it!
What do you think? Is this something we should look more into enacting east of the river to combat loitering or illegal activity such as open-air drug markets or public drinking?
