DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities awards $1.7 million in grants in the third quarter of FY 2017
Funding supports individuals and organizations in DC's eight wards

(Washington) - The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH) Board of Commissioners recently approved $1.73 million in grant awards to District-based individuals and organizations to support arts and humanities projects taking place between now and  September 30, 2017.

The grant announcements come as part of  innoMAYtion, Mayor Bowser's month-long initiative showcasing how ideas from local entrepreneurs and innovators are making the District a global model for inclusive innovation.

$911,650 was awarded to 29 organizations to provide arts and humanities experiences to District of Columbia students from Pre-K up to 21 years of age through the Arts Education Experiences grant program. $640,920 was awarded to 55 individuals and organizations to support arts and humanities activities through the Projects, Events and Festivals grant program. $180,000 was awarded to support the creation and installation of three new pieces of public artwork in the District through the Public Art Building Communities grant program.

"This year, we instituted a new practice of offering mid-year grant applications in response to ideas and feedback we received from the community," said Arthur Espinoza, Jr., Executive Director of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. "This allows the opportunity to apply for support for projects that might fall outside our traditional annual grant cycle, making it possible for the Commission to support an even wider array of arts and humanities programs in the District."

Applications for several FY 2018 grant opportunities are now available. More information is available online  www.dcarts.dc.gov or by calling  202-724-5613.
