Job Summary
This position is located in the Department of General Services (DGS). DGS manages the
capital improvement and construction program for District government facilities, which
include the development and construction of new government owned facilities consisting of
the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), recreation centers, and office buildings,
among others. DGS is responsible for real property for District government use, managing
space in buildings operated or leased by District government, and providing building services
for facilities owned or operated by the District. DGS provides engineering services, custodial services, security services, energy conservation, utilities management, maintenance,
inspection, planning, small and large capital repairs and non-structural improvements.
The work of this position involves serving as a leader of staff receiving, storing, and
assembling for issue, and distribution, a wide variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials,
equipment, and commodities using mechanized, automated, and manual material moving
equipment, devices, and systems.

This position is in a Collective Bargaining Unit represented by Teamster 730.

Qualifications
- Ability to lead employees, and provide instructions and demonstrate work methods and techniques.
- An in-depth knowledge of the overall warehousing planning, documentation requirements, and accepted warehousing methods, procedures, and techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of the physical distribution functions of a warehouse such as material receiving, storage, issuing, and preservation.
- Experience in receiving, packaging and preparation for shipment, compilation of reports, and overall warehousing procedures.
- Ability to assist with inventories by counting items and properly completing inventory documents and coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments and placement of materials that have docking areas.
- Ability to lay out storage space and establish item and material locations in accordance with agency regulations.
- Experience in setting up and rotating storage location considering factors such as life expectancy, available space utilization, product turnover, safety considerations, and damage protection
- Ability to prepare inventory and production reports, screen and identify shipping and receiving documents for discrepancies, and direct shipments to shipping/distribution or storage areas.
- Ability to operate large material moving equipment and vehicles inside a warehouse and forklifts
- Ability to place, store, maintain, and oversee certain types of hazardous materials such as toxic chemicals, pesticides, flammables materials in accordance with regulatory and other safety requirements.

Education
High School diploma
Work Experience
Applicant must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CS-05 grade level in the District of Columbia Government Services or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Work Environment
The work involves bending, stooping and working in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions and the incumbent often stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. May lift and carry items that weigh up to 50 pounds. Heavier items are moved with material handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
