Honfleur Gallery: French Doors | Aziza Claudia Gibson-Hunter

(Washington, DC) Honfleur Gallery is pleased to present French Doors, a never before seen show by influential artist and educator, Aziza Claudia Gibson-Hunter. Gibson-Hunter has worked and exhibited in Washington, DC for over 25 years and is one of the founding members of Black Artists DC.

In this series, Gibson-Hunter questions the implication of opulence in Parisian architecture with large-scale mixed media works. The artist juxtaposes the ornate doors prevalent in Paris against West African patterns. The resulting works explore wealth, power, and exploitation in relationship to personal and national
sovereignty.

French Doors will run March 25 – May 13 at Honfleur Gallery (1241 Good Hope Road, SE, Washington DC 20020, 202-631-6291). An opening reception will be held April 1 from 6 - 8 pm and an artist talk is scheduled for April 4 at 7 pm. Gallery Hours are Wednesday - Saturday from 12 - 7 pm. All events are FREE and open to the public.

Aziza Claudia Gibson-Hunter studied at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art and received her MFA from Howard University. She has taught at Howard University and Bowie State University.
Visitors are also encouraged to see Alexandra Chiou’s Primordial Planes at Vivid Solutions Gallery only two doors down! Opening reception for that show is also April 1.
