Art All Night Returns Across the District, September 26
DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Announces
"Art All Night: Nuit Blanche DC" Programming
WASHINGTON, DC -
The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) is excited to celebrate five years of Art All Night: Nuit Blanche DC and announce the programming for the largest-yet annual art festival. Art All Night will be District-wide on
Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 7 PM to 3 AM. All events are free and open to the public.
Art All Night presents an eclectic evening of visual, music, and performing artists. Based on a festival concept that began in Paris, Art All Night offers residents and visitors an exciting opportunity to engage with DC arts and artists, which aligns with Mayor Muriel Bowser's vision to make the arts accessible to all residents in the District of Columbia. Programming includes a site-specific visual concert, live painting, performances by local musicians and poetry readings. Art All Night activates and enlivens five neighborhoods -- Congress Heights, Dupont Circle, Shaw, North Capitol and H Street NE -- with arts and cultural activities, contributing to the vibrancy of the city. New to the festival this year are five major light installations - one in each of the featured neighborhoods.
Art All Night will begin at 7:00 pm on
Saturday, September 26th and will conclude at
3:00 am
Sunday, September 27th. A full listing of programming will be available online at
www.artallnightdc.com. Additional information can be found at
www.dcarts.dc.gov.
The DC festival was founded in 2011 by Creative Director Ariana Austin and was presented in the Shaw Main Street neighborhood. Through the efforts of DCCAH, the festival now includes Dupont Circle, North Capitol, H Street NE, Congress Heights, in addition to Shaw. Each of the five neighborhoods will host their own unique mix of artistic programming for audiences to enjoy free of charge. The DC Main Streets program is funded by the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development.
"Art All Night is a District-wide celebration of the DC arts," said Kay Kendall, Chair of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. "District residents and visitors will enjoy an engaging night of free activities, while exploring five unique neighborhoods."
"The DCCAH continues to build on the success of previous events that attracted audiences of up to 30,000 people in one night with new artists and experiences for attendees to enjoy," said Lisa Richards Toney, Interim Executive Director of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. "The event is a great mechanism for supporting the creative economy by increasing foot traffic to the neighborhoods and businesses, while spotlighting local arts and culture."
