Sierra Club’s Washington, D.C. Chapter Endorses Eugene D. Kinlow For Ward 8 City Council

Washington, D.C. - Today, the Washington, D.C. Sierra Club announced their endorsement in support of Eugene D. Kinlow for Ward 8 city council. The endorsement comes one day before the highly anticipated financial filing deadline on March 10th. The D.C. chapter of the Sierra Club is made up of over 3,600 members involved in local conservation efforts and is part of the almost 800,000 strong national organization committed to protecting the environment.

Bob Summersgill, Chair of the D.C. Sierra Club Political Committee, and a member of the Executive Board offered the following statement:

“I am pleased that Eugene D. Kinlow has been endorsed by the D.C. Chapter of the Sierra Club. Eugene Kinlow has a continued commitment to the environment. He has long been an advocate for smart growth, zero waste, and encouraging an environmentally friendly lifestyle, and we are excited about working with him as a council member.”

The endorsement adds to Eugene D. Kinlow’s lengthy record of working to preserve the environment. Several years ago, Eugene Kinlow led the effort to keep a private prison from being developed on National Park Service land at Oxon Cove, located in Ward 8. He has served on the Board of the Anacostia River Keeper helping to improve water quality, has worked closely with both the Environmental Justice Committee of the Sierra Club, and the Mayor’s Environmental Council.

“I am very grateful for the support from the Washington chapter of the Sierra Club,” said Eugene D. Kinlow, candidate for D.C. Council. “For years, I have worked to protect our environment and natural treasures. I promise to continue to advocate on behalf of Ward 8 residents so that we have access to a clean and safe waterfront as well as one that helps attract investment and jobs for Ward 8 residents.”
