THEARC (1901 Mississippi Ave SE) continues to celebrate Black History Month in style! The Advocate wants to make sure that you were aware of THEARC's grand finale, TRUTH the Musical, an original play inspired by the life and legend of Sojourner Truth. This production includes local youth, Broadway actors and the theater tech is being performed by local students in the ICAN @THEARC Theater program. The musical will be performed right here in Ward 8 in THEARC’s theater!


THEARC Theater presents...Black History Month @ THEARC featuring TRUTH the Musical, an original production  and collaboration with Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington and Keni Fine Productions.

When a troubled urban teen with a thirst for meaning gets himself in trouble, an unlikely champion from the the past appears to show him a way out. Sparks fly as Sojourner Truth takes Peter ona journey back through time, into her amazing life story, her world and its people. As Peter opens his eyes to scenes and songs  from Sojourners life, part of his own history, he discovers who he really is and how good it feels and sounds to finally speak the TRUTH! Sponsored by WC Smith, THEARC Theater, BGCGW, DCCAH, I CAN Technical Theater program, and Keni Fine Productions.

THEARC wants to make sure that as many Ward 7 and Ward 8 families are able to attend TRUTH the Musical performances. In addition to hosting several daytime showings for local school children. THEARC will also be hosting a free performance for Girls & Boys Club members and local school children during the 7:30pm performance on Friday, February 27 (if you know of a school/org that would like to bring a group of students to this show please have them email kdouglas@thearcdc.org). The Friday night show will be live broadcast to all Boys & Girls Clubs in the nation! Young people and families all around the country will be able to watch a theatrical performance based right here in Ward 8!

So how can you help?

1) Spread the word about the TRUTH the Musical! Attached please find a flyer. Tickets can be purchased online or at THEARC Theater box office.

2) Encourage people to purchase group tickets for youth and seniors — they can even donate them! THEARC is having a special on group youth/senior tickets — $10 per ticket (a savings of $5 per ticket) when buying 10 or more tickets.
